Converting OpenOffice Documents

OpenOffice offers a great free open source tool for creating documents. It can even save them to PDF or HTML.

When OO saves to HTML it puts all the print formatting into the HTML code which means it will be easy to open again to edit but it will not look good on the web. Riverdocs conversion offers a solution to all this and other problems related to publishing ODT files on the web.

  • Small percentage of web users are familiar with ODT files and know how to view them.
  • Risks associated with putting any editable document format on the web
  • Miss out on benefits of search engine optimisation (SEO) and web traffic monitoring.

Open Office is part of an effort to establish an Open Standard for document exchange. However Microsoft has a lead with it's OpenXML with future versions of office expected to be implement support for the ISO/IEC 29500 standard.

HTML has been, and will continue to be, the standard for publishing documents on the web. Riverdocs can convert your files into accessible HTML which will work with all browser types without the need for any other software or plug in.
